Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Ephesians 5:24
Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
1 Peter 3:1(a)
Likewise, ye wives be in subjection to your own husbands;
I love being a wife! I really do. You see, being a Godly wife really has nothing to do with who you're married to. It is a God given role. The bible gives us very specific instructions on how we are to carry ourselves as married women and how to treat our husbands. As wives, we must be what God has called us to be and that's paramount. I know, there are times when it goes against our feelings and emotions, but our feelings and emotions can never get in the way of obeying God's word. That's the only thing that we will be judged on in the end.
The verses above have a common theme. In each of them, God uses the words "your own". Why do you think He had to use those words? Was there an issue then? What is He saying to us today? When I read these verses of scripture, it causes me to question myself--how am I doing with my own? Am I being the wife that God has called me to be? Am I doing what His word says I should? Am I doing all of what God would have me to with my own husband?
Women of God, those of us who call Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, I am on a journey! A journey to become the wife that God has called me to be and I hope that you will join me. I'm challenging myself and all those who will come along, to take the focus off of our husbands and to examine our own commitment to being a Godly wife. My desire is to please God in my thoughts, my words and my actions. I want God's word to reign in my life and in my marriage. I want to become the "pure in heart" (Matt 5:8).
How am I doing with my "own"?
